DATA PROTECTION FOUNDATION (a Community Interest Company) SUPPORTER MEMBERSHIP TERMS AND CONDITIONS Last updated: 29 AUGUST 2026 These terms, together with our Privacy Policy (https://dataprotectionfoundation.org/privacy), govern your free membership of The Data Protection Foundation ("DPF", "we", "us" or "our") as a supporter or member. Please read them carefully and keep a copy for your records. If you have any questions, please contact us at membership@dataprotectionfoundation.org. 1. About Us 1.1 The Data Protection Foundation is a Community Interest Company incorporated and registered in England and Wales at Companies House under company number 12820041 and regulated by the Regulator of Community Interest Companies. Our registered office is at Third Floor, 1 New Fetter Lane, London, United Kingdom, EC4A 1AN. 1.2 As a Community Interest Company, we operate for the benefit of the community rather than for private profit. Our community interest statement and asset lock, which restrict the use and distribution of our assets to community-benefit purposes, are filed at Companies House and available on request. 2. Nature of Your Membership 2.1 Membership of the DPF is free of charge. No subscription fee, payment or other consideration is required or accepted in exchange for membership or any of the benefits described in these terms. 2.2 Because no payment or other consideration is given by you in exchange for membership, this membership arrangement is not a contract for the supply of goods, services or digital content for the purposes of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and the statutory rights and remedies under that Act (including in relation to quality, fitness for purpose, and rights to repeat performance, price reduction or refund) do not apply. These terms instead set out the basis on which we agree to admit you as a member and provide you with membership benefits on a goodwill basis. 2.3 We may withdraw, vary or discontinue any membership benefit at any time and for any reason, given that no payment is made in exchange for it, and no compensation will be payable to you as a result. 2.4 On applying for membership, you agree to be bound by these terms. Our acceptance of your application brings into effect the arrangement described in these terms between us and you. 3. Eligibility 3.1 Membership is open to individuals aged 16 or over who support our community purposes, as set out in our community interest statement. 3.2 Membership is personal to you and may not be transferred to another person. 3.3 We may decline or end a membership at our reasonable discretion, including where we reasonably believe membership is being used in a manner inconsistent with these terms or with our community purposes, or in a way that is abusive towards our staff, volunteers or other members. 4. Membership Benefits 4.1 The benefits available to members will be set out in our current membership information or on our website from time to time, and may include, for example: • Updates on our activities and community work (by post, email or newsletter); • Invitations to member events, meetings or activities; • The opportunity to participate in consultations or feedback on our work. 4.2 As membership is free and no consideration is given for these benefits, we may add, change, reduce or withdraw any benefit at any time without notice, although we will act reasonably and communicate significant changes to members where practicable. 5. Your Commitments as a Member 5.1 As a member, we ask that you treat our staff, volunteers, and other members with courtesy and respect, and act in a manner consistent with our values and community purposes as described in our community interest statement. 5.2 You must keep your contact details up to date so that we can continue to communicate with you about your membership and our activities that may affect you. 6. Cancellation and Termination 6.1 You may end your membership at any time, for any reason, by contacting us at membership@dataprotectionfoundation.org or The Data Protection Foundation (Membership), Third Floor, 1 New Fetter Lane, London, United Kingdom, EC4A 1AN. As no payment is made for membership, no refund question arises. 6.2 We may suspend or end your membership, with reasonable notice where practicable, if you breach these terms or clause 5, or if we reasonably believe your continued membership is not in the interests of the DPF or its community purposes. 6.3 On termination or expiry of your membership for any reason, your right to receive membership benefits ends immediately. 7. Your Information and Data Protection 7.1 When you apply for membership, we will collect certain personal information from you (such as your name, contact details and, where relevant, your areas of interest) in order to administer your membership and provide membership benefits. 7.2 We will handle your personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation, the Data Protection Act 2018, and our Privacy Policy, available at https://dataprotectionfoundation.org/privacy. By applying for membership, you confirm that you have read our Privacy Policy and consent to us processing your data in the manner described in it. 7.3 We will contact you for marketing purposes in accordance with your communication preferences and applicable law. You may update your preferences or ask us to stop contacting you at any time. 8. Our Liability 8.1 Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law. 8.2 Subject to clause 8.1, and given that membership and its benefits are provided free of charge, we accept no liability to you for any loss or damage arising from your membership, from any membership benefit, or from any event or activity we organise, except to the extent caused by our negligence. 9. Complaints 9.1 If you are unhappy with any aspect of your membership, please contact us using the details in clause 6.1, and we will do our best to resolve the matter promptly and fairly. 9.2 If we are unable to resolve a complaint between us, and you consider that we have failed to act in accordance with our community interest statement, you may raise the matter with the Regulator of Community Interest Companies. 10. General 10.1 These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, set out the entire agreement between you and us in relation to your membership, and supersede any previous agreements, representations or understandings between us on this subject. 10.2 We may update these terms from time to time to reflect changes in our membership offering or in the law. Where we make a material change, we will take reasonable steps to notify existing members before the change takes effect. 10.3 These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, save that if you are resident in Scotland these terms are governed by Scots law, and if you are resident in Northern Ireland these terms are governed by the laws of Northern Ireland. Any disputes will be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the relevant jurisdiction. 10.4 If any provision of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
